In this paper new semi-empirical formulas are developed to evaluate the variation of both real and imaginary parts of soil complex permittivity with depth inside the earth's surface. Computed values using these models show good agreement with published measured values for soils of the same textures and same frequency band. Use of these models may serve to handle more accurate results especially in the ground probing radar (GPR) applications and other applications relating the detection of buried objects inside the earth's surface, where the use of a single average value of the soil complex permittivity had not necessarily led, for most of the times, to accurate results for the electromagnetic fields propagated inside the earth's surface.

Investigation and Statistical comparison of the soil empirical desalinization models for salin-sodic soils (Case study: Khuzestan province)

Accumulation of soluble salts in arid areas which are similar to most regions of Iran is inevitable in soil surface and profile because of low precipitation and high evaporation. High concentration of soluble salts in soil profile caused severe problems for root water uptake thus plant growth stopped. Reducing soil salinity to optimized content by leaching and avoiding soil pounding must be con...

In the present research, the performances of six empirical models, i.e., simple threshold exceedance, fixed proportion exceedance, quadratic function of storage, power function of storage, cubic function of storage, and exponential function of storage were investigated for estimation of groundwater potential recharge in a semi-arid region. First, the FAO Dual Crop procedure was used to calibrat...

Mathematical Investigation of Soil Temperature Variation for Geothermal Applications

This paper aims to predict the periodic variation of ground temperature with depth for time variant condition of ambient air temperature and solar radiation data for Jamshedpur, India. Fourier series and numerical techniques have been used to determine (hottest and coldest day) diurnal and annual temperature variation of the year 2015. The diurnal temperature variation is up to 0.2 m depth of s...

In-Situ Measurement of Soil Permittivity at Various Depths for the Calibration and Validation of Low-Frequency SAR Soil Moisture Models by Using GPR

At radar frequencies below 2 GHz, the mismatch between the 5 to 15 cm sensing depth of classical time domain reflectometry (TDR) probe soil moisture measurements and the radar penetration depth can easily lead to unreliable in situ data. Accurate quantitative measurements of soil water contents at various depths by classical methods are cumbersome and usually highly invasive. We propose an impr...

New Method for Calculation Mixing Rule and Modification Semi-empirical Models for Solubility Modeling in Supercritical Solvent

The critical properties of a solute are required for modeling of the solubility by the equation of state. For many compounds, the critical properties are not available. So, group contribution method is utilized as a common method to estimate these properties. But, it leads to the consecutive errors in calculations of the solubility modeling. In this study, Soave-Redlish-Kowang (SRK) and Peng-Ro...
